My Creative History

This is an image of one of the sketches that I attempted last year. My inspiration came from a photo that I found online. It was an exciting endeavour to start finding my own place in the world of creativity. My sister was always considered to be the creative one, always painting and drawing with bright colours. I, however, prefer dark tones and neutral colours. Black and white contrast was always something I enjoyed. So I decided to try sketching!

I've started incorporating charcoal pencils to create darker darks and I'm always trying to consider two things I learned in highschool art class:
1) to SUGGEST shape and line instead of actually drawing it out
2) to utilize negative space

  1. Great drawing tips to remember! I used to love drawing with brown conte - darker and lighter shades and some white - on cream parchment paper. The colours you've chosen here remind me of that. (The very bright colours of my Flourish Figures are a new thing for me!). And who says there can be only ONE creative person per family. I read about the Bronte sisters who had a writing contest to amuse themselves one summer and one produced Jane Eyre and another Wuthering Heights! (both classic works of literature) Good thing they didn't go with the "creative one in the family" thinking! Thanks for sharing your drawing - it has graceful lines and subtle shading.
